Oh Naturelle!

We can into this world in the most natural state…yet once we are here, we often forget what that means. If we have a headache we reach for a pill, if we have a cold, we reach for a pill, if we have a pain, we reach for a pill…when really Hippocrates said it best in 400 BC… Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food!

There are a plethora of natural cures for all that ails you. Don’t take my word for it, try them out for yourself!

Got a headache? How about a natural mint-cucumber compress?

2-4 slices of fresh cucumber

2 tsp dried mint

1 cup water

According to herbal lore, the cooling combination of sucumber and mint can be effective in silencing the pain of headaches, especially behind the eyes.

Bring water to boil,

steep the mint for 10-15 mins (covered),

strain and refrigerate for usage

TO USE:

Dip – to dampen – a washcloth in the cold tea

Place 2 cucumber slices over each eye and place compress over your eyes and forehead and rest quietly until pain subsides.

NICE, nuts!

People who eat nuts are less likely to have heart attacks. That’s right! Studies have shown a 30-50% LOWER risk of heart disease or heart attacks associated with eating nuts several times a week. (Could be that arginine – the amino acid that is touted for protecting the inner lining of the arterial walls making them more pliable)

Some people shy away from nuts because of the fat content…SILLY PEOPLE! Nuts are full of the GOOD fats! Monounsaturated, polyunsaturated and naturally occurring saturated fats…do your research, many fats have health benefits!

Monounsaturated fats are most common in nuts and that is good for you! Lowers risk of heart disease, cancer and lengthens life spans. Eat more nuts!

But which nuts to eat?

Almonds

Hazlenuts

Pecans

Walnuts

Macadamia nuts

Pine nuts

Pistachio nuts

And how much? 1-5 oz per week.

Simply …

…add cashews to a stir fry

…toss roasted pine nuts into a marinara sauce

…add slivered almonds to yogurt

…toss walnuts into a salad or mix with quinoa

…create your own home made trail mix (nuts, dates, raisins and oats)

Oh yeah and natural nut butters on celery or apply pieces is simply too good to be true…but it is! Eat more!

Never Diet Again?!?!?! Seriously !?!?!?!

Diet: the food a species habitually eats. If that is really the definition, why do we have to GO ON a diet…isn’t everything we eat part of our “diet”? So really, let’s take a look at changing our diet and not going on one.

This post was inspired by a question on a moms group chat. The question was simple enough, “hey mama’s anyone out there got a really good diet?” Of course,  I had to respond!

Hi Allie, yours is a very popular question “how do I lose weight?”. So before you make this journey, decide what it is that you want:

1. Do you want to lose weight or release it forever? NB: Anyone can lose weight but keeping it off with ease seems to be where the REAL goals lie.

2. Are you willing to “give up stuff” or would you rather “add stuff” to your diet? Diet is not a bad word, by definition, diet means “the food a species eats”

3. What is the purpose of getting rid of the pounds? Increased self esteem? Better health? More lifestyle options?

4. What changes are you will to make changes to get the results you want?

These are the questions I ask my cleansing clients before I agree to work with them. You see, anyone can lose weight, really, just look at the multi- billion dollar diet industry – those WW people who lose and gain and lose and gain and have “lifetime memberships”, and what about those “fad” lose weight-in-a-box kind of things you get at the stores? Seriously!?!

Allie, 6 years ago I was on a very unhealthy path, 40 lbs over weight, never feeling “my best”, tired, cranky, and really not very happy with myself. Then my world changed. I made a decision to NEVER DIET AGAIN and take a look at what I was actually doing to my body…because it’s not just about the FOOD WE EAT that causes us to be unhealthy and overweight…It is our environment, our stress levels, the water we drink, the pesticides in our foods and so much more. What I discovered was I was that ONLY person who cared enough about me to take care of my HEALTH…my doctor kept feeding my sickness. I took control, I partnered with people who CARED about me as a person and not a prescription and I took responsibility for my own life.

And now, well, after 6 years, I have helped over 2000 people start on their health journey. Some have stayed, some have strayed and some down right quit…you will be one of those people. But you won’t know until you get started.

Allie, are you ready to NEVER DIET AGAIN?

It really is that simple.

“I” Don’t Know What I Don’t Know!

Isn’t that the truth! How can I know what I don’t know? Well all we can do is learn…so let’s learn a bit here today.

We hear a LOT about insulin, inulin, insoluble fibre, and inflammation, but what do e we REALLY know about them?

Here is what I know…

INSULIN: Is a hormone that lowers the level of glucose in the blood and when glucose goes up (like when we eat) insulin helps that glucose enter the body’s cells where it can be used for energy or “stored” for future use. This is the fat storing hormone that, if raised high enough, long enough consistently enough will contribute to diabetes, heart disease and aging. A healthy body regulates insulin easily.

INULIN: A naturally occurring soluble fibre that feeds the good bacteria in the gut and helps support gastrointestinal health. Basically it creates a friendly environment in the digestive tract.

INSOLUBLE FIBRE: indigestible part of foods that moved bulk through the intestines.  We call it “roughage”. This type of fibre absorbs water as it moves through you and “in the end” makes it easier to “eliminate the waste”.

INFLAMMATION: This is a big word that is thrown around a lot. The bottom line it is the critical component of almost every degenerative disease. It is a biological reaction to harmful stimuli in the body, damaged cells, irritants etc. The UPSIDE of inflammation is wounds and infections heal because of it. The challenge is CHRONIC inflammation that can lead to a lot of problems, hay fever, arthritis, even cancer.

As always, feed your body better to feel your best. www.BestBreakfastEver.com
